News Catch-up 11 June 2021

Well, the big day is almost upon us. Record Store Day Drop 1 commences at 9AM June 12th (a little over 12 hours as of this writing). Now, due to the restrictions that have been in place over the last 2 weeks in Victoria, we will not be participating in an instore event. However, all RSD titles that we have in stock will be going on sale on our online store at the aforementioned time.

Last week's News Catch-up instalment (which you can check out HERE), we confirmed some RSD titles will definitely be on sale come the time. But since then, we have had even more stock deliveries - honestly, it's actually getting hard to move around in here! We can now confirm even more awesome RSD titles that will be on sale at 9AM tomorrow.

First up is Melodia, the 4th studio album from Australian garage rock band The Vines. Originally released in 2008, Melodia has never had an official vinyl release. This RSD edition is pressed on 180gm translucent lime-coloured vinyl.       \

The Cure have had a big presence in Record Store Day of recent years, usually contributing gorgeous looking picture disc versions of their past catalogue. This year is no exception and we are proud to be stocking the RSD exclusive picture disc of The Cure's 3rd album, Faith. This edition also celebrates the album's 40th anniversary and is presented in a die-cut cover, with a digital download card included within.

Gorillaz are another band that have had some pretty amazing releases in previous Record Store Days, but their new one is a very special release indeed. Gorillaz The G Collection. This release is in fact a 6 LP boxset collecting the albums GorillazDemon DaysPlastic BeachHumanzThe Now Now, and last year's Song Machine: Season One.

2021 is the 50th anniversary of Pearl, the final (and posthumous) album by the legendary Janis Joplin, and Record Store Day 2021 is celebrating by releasing the album on picture disc for the first time ever. Being one of the most famous album covers, the image taken by photographer Barry Feinstein looks gorgeous as a picture disc and is sure to be coveted by any Janis fan.

Janis isn't the only legend of 1960's rock this RSD, as The Rolling Stones are making their presence known with an exclusive 10'' picture single called A Bigger Bang. Side A contains a live version of the song, Rain Fall Down (recorded at Copacabana Beach 2006). Side B contains a live version of Rough Justice (recorded at Salt Lake City 2005).

Picture discs are looking popular for this year's RSD, as we also have an exclusive picture disc edition of the original score to the 1980's classic film, The Goonies. Although this soundtrack has been released as a double LP, this version is a single disc version, with the tracklisting selected and edited down by the composer himself Dave Grusin.

Def Leppard have an awesome release this year too. Live In Oxford, a 1980 live double LP album was originally included in their Early Years CD box set. This release is not only the 1st time the album has been available seperately, but also the first time it has been pressed onto vinyl.

And finally, we can also confirm Elton John's Regimental Sgt. Zippo. Hard-core Elton fans may know this legendary record as the album-that-never-was, having been recorded and slated for release back in 1968. Unfortunately, this never happened and the tapes were shelved... until now!

There are plently more that will be available, so check out the full list HERE. And remember: Record Store Day rules still apply. One title per customer (no multiples of a single title), no holds/reservations, and fun must be had at all times! Well, that's it from us. We need to get ourselves off to bed and so should you! See you nice and early tomorrow morning on our online store. Good luck everyone! Hope you get what you want!
