News Catch-up 05 August 2022

Welcome back everybody. Hard to believe it is already August, and even harder to believe that it has been 30 years since The Cure released their masterful - not to mention most commercially successful - album Wish. And what would be better to celebrate this 30th milestone than with a couple of special editions of said album?
For those of you who have been paying attention, the idea of a special edition of Wish was actually brought up by Robert Smith himself back in 2018. This announcement was cruel as it was exciting, as we would have to wait a whole 4 years before its release. Good thing this year is 2022... and an even better thing that today is Friday (I'm in love!).
Wish will be available as a standard 2 LP vinyl edition, featuring a new remaster produced by Robert Smith and Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios.
But the real jewel is the 3 CD Deluxe Edition. Disc 1 of this set contains the new remaster of Wish, whereas Disc 2 will contain no less than 21 previously unreleased demos, including 4 studio vocal demos and 17 instrumental demos, all recorded during the making of the album.
Disc 3 features the Lost Wishes EP - originally released in 1993 as a mail-order cassette. The disc also contains a previously unreleased song A Wendy Band, an alternate mix of From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea, 5 rare 12" mixes (including the Strangelove mix of Friday I'm In Love), and a live version of End recorded in Paris 1992.

Our regular readers will know that we dedicated our last News Catch-up to the upcoming Bowie reissues (read HERE in case you missed it), and honestly, we thought this edition would be Bowie-free...
2022 happens to be the 45th anniversary of the studio album Heroes. To mark the occasion, a special edition grey-coloured vinyl will be available exclusively to "brick-and-mortar" stores. For those not in the know, Heroes is the 2nd chapter in the so-called 'Berlin Trilogy' and is very possibly the most influential of the 3. The title track alone is worth the price of admission and has gone on to become one of Bowie's best known songs, having also been used in a myriad of film and TV soundtracks.

And speaking of 'loose trilogies', when Paul McCartney released McCartney III in 2020, he essentially gave us the final chapter (for now) of his self-titled trilogy, following on from 1970's McCartney and 1980's McCartney II. Now, for the 1st time, all 3 remarkable albums will be available in a special limited edition box set arriving this month.

Some Bowie, some McCartney and a little bit of The Cure... and the 1st week of August isn't even over. We'll be back in a few days to see what else is coming our way. It's going to be exciting!
