News Catch-up 11 November 2020

Hello all. November is well and truly on us now. And with another month, comes another slew of vinyl releases. Let's get into what's been announced and what has just come in.

In 2010, Dave Brubeck embarked on what was to be his final studio recording: a collection of tradition children’s songs, as well as some originals. These tracks went on to make up the album Lullabies. Now, eight years following his death, Lullabies has received a release from Verve Records.

“From the beginning of time, mothers have lulled their babies to sleep – softly singing familiar melodies,” Brubeck said during the original recording. “Some of the melodies on this album are like those familiar songs. Some are original pieces that I thought would appeal to babies as well as an older generation. I hope the littles ones will respond to this music, and that parents and grandparents will enjoy it as well.”

With tracks like Brahms’ Lullaby, Danny Boy and Over The Rainbow (all rendered in Brubeck’s unique and timeless jazz style, Lullabies is the perfect record to evoke the calmness that we all need after this turbulent year. Order your copy here.

Alice In Chains released their debut album, Facelift in 1990. Blowing music listeners away with tracks like Sea Of Sorrow and We Die Young, as well as helping to reign in the new era of Seattle grunge, Facelift proved to be a seminal album. Now, to celebrate its 30th anniversary, Sony is re-releasing it on vinyl.

With all tracks completely remastered and spread over two 150gm LPs, Alice In Chains’ Facelift 30th Anniversary edition is arriving at the end of this week and is available to pre-order here.

The isolation of lockdown this last year has been an interesting time for everyone. It has given us a lot of time to reflect, as well as to be more creative than we usually would be. This has certainly been the case for recording artists, and we are now at the interesting point of time where we are examining the fruits of those labours. So is the case with the upcoming Taylor Swift album Folklore.

Speaking about the album, Swift gave these statement: "In isolation my imagination has run wild and this album is the result, a collection of songs and stories that flowed like a stream of consciousness. Picking up a pen was my way of escaping into fantasy, history and memory. I’ve told these stories to the best of my ability with all the love, wonder, and whimsy they deserve. Now it’s up to you to pass them down."

Folklore is available to pre-order here.

And don't forget, there are so many more great newly released titles that have just arrived in our store and are available for order, including Prince's Sign "O" The Times picture disc edition, John Lennon's Gimme Some Truth 2 LP compilation, The Blues Brothers original soundtrack Album Day edition on blue vinyl, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show 45th anniversary picture disc.
