We hope everyone got their wishlists in for Record Store Day 2021. As the time draws nearer, we will have more information on what we will be getting in stock, as well as exact times and procedures for the day itself.
Now, we thought that we knew what we were going to focus on today, but then we got the big news about this year's Prince reissue campaign! So strap yourselves in, because this is going to be a doozy!
In 2010, before commencing an an 80-show 'Welcome 2 America' tour, Prince wrote and recorded an entire album's worth of material, with songs covering his concerns and hopes of where society was heading at the time. Amongst those concerns was the uncertain rise of social media, political division, and racial injustice. For reasons that have never been completely made clear, Prince himself abandoned the album and it never saw the light of day. But July this year, that light is finally coming.
As usual, with the Prince reissues, Welcome 2 America is going to be released as several different versions. First up is the standard doube LP on black vinyl, featuring 3 sides of music and an etching on the D-side. There will also be an Indie Exclusive double LP on clear vinyl, once more containg a D-side etching.
Accompanying the vinyl releases will be a CD boxset, containing the Welcome 2 America album on a Japanese Blue-Spec CD and a Blu-Ray disc containing the live concert 21 Nite Stand which was filmed at The Forum in Los Angeles in April 2011. The Blu-Ray will contain stereo, 5.1 surround, and Dolby Atmos as audio options for the concert.
Last, but not least, is the Welcome 2 America Deluxe Edition, which contains double LP vinyl, the CD and the 21 Nite Stand Blu-Ray. The set also contains a 32-page book, exclusive poster, and an embossed vellum envelope full of limited edition memorabilia. All of it will be contained within a gold-embossed box.
Head over to our Prince Welcome 2 America page HERE to view the range and pre-order your edition. All versions are expected to arrive between late July and mid August.
Welcome 2 America is not the only Prince release coming our way in 2021. The 1st Drop of Record Store Day this year is going to see the long-awaited vinyl release of Prince's 1998 album The Truth. Originally released as an accompaniment to Crystal Ball, The Truth was regarded as Prince's first acoustic album (although electronic elements do appear throughout). As this is a Record Store Day release, pre-orders cannot be taken, and we cannot fully gaurantee a stock in our store, however, make sure you stay posted on all of our RSD news and check back closer to the day to see if and when it will be possible to put your order in. Read more about The Truth RSD release HERE.
2021 sees the 50th anniversary celebration of Paul and Linda McCartney's Ram. Like last year's McCartney 50th release, Ram is getting pressed from a master cut at half-speed using the original master tapes at Abbey Road Studios and packaged with original artwork plus an exclusive OBI strip. Expected to arrive in mid May, Paul and Linda McCartney's Ram 50th half-speed mastered edition is available to pre-order HERE.
Whilst we (struggle to) eagerly await the releases of Ram and Welcome 2 America, you can still check out the awesome titles we have in our New Release section including Dua Lipa Future Nostalgia Moonlight Edition 2 LP (available HERE), The Church Priest=Aura MOV double white vinyl edition (available HERE), and Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut soundtrack Mondo edition (available HERE).
