News Catch-up 15 January 2021

Happy New Year! Welcome back everybody and greetings to 2021 - you are more than welcomed! We have only been back for a week now and we have been very busy catching up on all of your orders from Christmas onwards. We appreciate your patience and we thank everyone who has sent us 'thank you' letters and positive feedback. It truly is appreciated and it makes all our hard work worth it, knowing that you guys are happy with your orders. We are overjoyed to be in the midst of this 'Discrepancy community' and we look forward to continuing it well into this year and beyond.

Having said all that, let's get down to discussing what we are all so enthusiastic about: upcoming music releases!

Announced just before Christmas is the upcoming 30th anniversary of the original soundtrack to Edward Scissorhands. Direct form Waxwork Records, the soundtrack has been remastered for vinyl from the original masters, pressed on 'ice sculpture' blue with 'snow' white splatter vinyl and packaged in a gatefold sleeve with original artwork by Ruiz Burgos. Danny Elfman's music to Edward Scissorhands is of course a whimsical, string-driven soundtrack that perfectly compliments the emotional, Gothic fairytale. For 90's kids like me, Edward Scissorhands is a pleasant and nostalgic film, and this soundtrack is the perfect loveletter to that childhood classic. Nostalgia factor aside, the Edward Scissorhands deluxe anniversary edition is a great addition for any soundtrack fan, Danny Elfman fan, Tim Burton fan, or anyone with a love for beautiful music. Hopeful and emotional - we promise there won't be a dry eye in the house. Edward Scissorhand releases at the end of April.

Currently available to purchase is the debut solo album from Hauser, otherwise known as one-half of 2CELLOS. Classic is a collection of classical pieces arranged and recorded by Hauser along with the London Symphony Orchestra. Among the pieces are tracks originally written by such greats as Mozart, Bach, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Handel and Puccini. Originally released on limited red vinyl through Music On Vinyl early last year (and quite a big seller at the store!), this new version is pressed on audiophile 180gm black vinyl. Hauser's Classic is not just a great addition to classical music lovers, but also a terrific way to introduce younger audiences to some of the greatest pieces of music ever written. Order your copy now.

Without a doubt, our biggest seller of the 2nd half of last year was Harry Styles' Fine Line. Shipment after shipment of this LP came through our doors and was no sooner back out the door for customer delivery. It was an ordeal to keep stock of this title in, and quite frankly, with the amount of good tracks (including Lights Up and Watermelon Sugar), not to mention one of the 'glammest' album covers since Ziggy Stardust himself, we can't blame y'all. Judging how the orders have been coming in the first week back alone, we can almost guarantee that Fine Line is going to continue to be a big seller through 2021 as well. Fortunately, we are standing up to the challenge of supplying what you demand, and copies of the LP are in stock. So if you're one of the few that haven't purchased a copy already, now is the perfect time. Harry Styles Fine Line is in stock and available to purchase now.

And speaking of Ziggy Stardust... this past week saw quite a significant milestone take place. Not only would it have been the 74th birthday of the late David Bowie, but it was also the five year anniversary of Bowie passing as well as the release of his final album Blackstar. Five years... (and if you know why that in itself is significant, then you and I will always be friends). Naturally, Blackstar was played on the turntable in store here whilst we processed all of your orders. Five years on, the album still manages to take the listener on a journey from hopelessness, grief, frustration and of course, just a bit of cheekiness. The genius of Bowie is well on display in his final album, and we here at Discrepancy cannot possibly recommend it enough. And while we have no solid news on any upcoming Bowie releases, we are sure that 2021 will see a whole slate of re-releases, anniversary editions and / or unheard live tracks. 2020 saw the release of two exclusive RSD titles, ChangesNow and I'm Only Dancing Soul Tour '74, as well as the 50th anniversary of Metrobolist. Fingers crossed we get some more amazing titles this year.

Whilst we don't like to speculate on any upcoming releases, it is a safe bet to say that there will be some amazing box sets / remix editions on the not-too-far horizon. This year does see the delayed release of The Beatles Get Back movie project, so an accompanying soundtrack release seems a safe bet. Also, the long-rumoured 50th anniversary remix of George Harrison's All Things Must Pass is still doing the whisper rounds. Oh, and as for this year's big Prince release? I've already been making bets with one of the packers here as to what it will be. They're leaning towards a re-release of Diamonds And Pearls, though I'm hoping for a remix box set of the Batman soundtrack (wishful thinking, I know!). Whatever it ends up being, I am sure it will be spectacular. And rest assured you will be able to learn all about it here once any information is released.

We are only two weeks into this year and already we can feel the rumblings of upcoming releases coming our way. We cannot wait to tell you all about it. Until then, let us just say: it is good to be back!

Oh, and once more with feeling:
