News Catch-up 16 June 2022

Welcome back everyone. By now, you must have heard (over the thumping of your turntable speakers) that the 2nd 'drop' of Record Store Day 2022 is nigh upon us - this Saturday 18th to be precise! And there are some absolutely amazing titles hitting the shelves at. our store.

First up is Prince Gold Experience. Originally released in 1995, Gold Experience was the first album to be released by Prince when he was simply known as the unpronounceable "love symbol". The name had changed, but the quality of hits stayed as high as ever with the stunning tracks, Gold, Eye Hate U, and The Most Beautiful Girl In The World. This special RSD edition is pressed on 2 gold translucent vinyl discs, with the D-side containing a listing of Eye Hate U remixes.

Next we have the Chet Baker Trio Live In Paris: The Radio France Recordings 1983 - 1984. This is the first time that this triple LP set has been available anywhere and includes two concert recordings made at Esplanade De La Defence on July 17 1983 and at Le Petit Opportun on February 7 1984. Featured on the album are bassists Riccardo Del Fra and Dominique Lemerle, as well as pianist Michel Graillier. The audio has been transferred from the original Radio France tape reels and mastered by legendary sound engineer Kevin Gray (seriously, his engineering and producing credits take up 105 pages on Discogs!) at Conhearant Audio.

Peter Gabriel is also joining the Drop 2 party with the 3 LP live album, Live Blood. Recorded at the Hammersmith Apollo, London, 23 & 24 March 2011, Live Blood was part of Gabriel's New Blood project, where he performed re-worked versions of his classic songs with a 46-piece orchestra. Half-speed remastered and cut by Matt Colton of Metropolis Mastering and overseen by sound engineer Richard Chappell, this version is pressed across three 'blood red' vinyl discs. Also included with the edition is a digital download with both a Hi-Res 24bit and 16bit version.

Now of course, it wouldn't be a Record Store Day party without an Ennio Morricone soundtrack on offer. And fortunately, this drop, we are getting a doozy: the soundtrack to the 1971 French Film, Sans Mobile Apparent. This is the first time that this soundtrack has been widely available on vinyl, and the audio has been remastered from the original tapes and cut by Frederic Alstadt.

Pearl Jam are also invited, along with their double LP, Live On Two Legs. Originally released in 1998, this live recording was from the band’s US Summer tour in support of the studio album, Yield. Mastered for vinyl, Live On Two Legs is pressed on two clear vinyl LPs and housed in a gatefold jacket.

Miles Davis, a regular guest at these shindigs. And Drop 2 is no exception. Especially when Davis is bringing What It Is: 7/7/83. Recorded at the Theatre St-Denis during the Festival International De Jazz De Montreal in July 1983, this is the first time this performance has been officially released. Featured on the album is John Scofield, (guitar), Bill "The Other Bill Evans" Evans (saxophone, flute and electric piano), Darryl Jones (bass), Al Foster (drums), and Mino Cinelu (percussion). Tracks included on this double LP are Hopscotch, Jean-Pierre, That's What Happened, and of course, What It Is. As well as being housed in a gatefold jacket, the album also includes lines notes by music journalist, Greg Tate.

Be sure to head over to our official Drop 2 page HERE to check out all of the titles that we will have in store on the day. And be sure to keep on eye on when titles will become available online for purchase. Stay up to date, keep spinning records and have a great Record Store Day!!!
