Welcome back everyone. It's nice to be on the other side of both drops of Record Store Day. We sincerly hope everyone got all the releases they wanted and are still blasting them away through their speakers during yet another lockdown. Nothing has stopped us though, and even though we've just barely managed to get back on our feet after the rush of RSD, we are still flat-out processing all of your orders and sorting through all of the amazing releases that are coming out for the 2nd half of this year. One release in particular has us all very excited, and judging by the amount of pre-orders we've already received for it, a lot of you are pretty stoked about it too. That's right; it's time to shine a spotlight on the Metallica Black Album 30th anniversary reissues!
The main event of the reissue campaign is the Metallica Super Deluxe Box Set. This limited and numbered edition contains no less than 5 LPs, 14 CDs and 6 DVDs. The LPs consist of the original album remastered; a Sad But True picture disc; and 2 live concerts: Live At Wembley Stadium April 1992 and Live At Tushino Airport (Moscow) September 1992.
The CDs will also contain the remastered version of the original album, as well as... (and boy, this is a lot, so let's just dot-point it eh?).
- Metallica Remastered
- Interviews: The David Fricke Tapes
- Interviews: The Stefan Chirazi Tapes
- Riffs & Demos #1 (includes audio of tracks during the writing process)
- Riffs & Demos #2
- Pre-Production Rehearsals + Radio Edits
- Rough & Alternate Mixes #1
- Rough & Alternate Mixes #2
- Some Shit From Day On The Green (includes live performances from October 1991)
- Live At Arco Arena #1
- Live At Arco Arena #2
- Live At Arco Arena #3 + Covers & B-Sides.
- Live At Maimarktgelande #1
- Live At Maimarktgelande # 2
And if that's not enough to keep your CD player busy, here is the DVD listing:
- A Year And A Half In The Life Of Metallica (includes the live performance takes from the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness in 1992)
- Live At Gentoffe Stadion, Coppenhagen 1991 + Bonus Shit
- Live At Frankenhalle, Nurumberg 1992
- Live At Festival Park, Belgium 1993
- Music Video + Halfin's Home Videos
- Wherever We May Roam
Phew, consider your Metallica viewing pleasure to be well-stocked. As well as the discs, there is also a myriad of goodies and replicas within the set too, including:
- An MP3 download card for all audio
- 4 tour laminates
- A lanyard
- 3 lithos
- 3 guitar picks
- A folder containing lyric sheets
- A 120-page hardcover book containing photos and interviews
Needless to say, the Metallica Super Deluxe Box Set is a must-have for any Black Album fan. It is available for pre-order HERE.
For those who are after something on a smaller scale, there will also be the Metallica 3 CD Expanded Edition, featuring the remastered album; a disc of demos and rough mixes; a disc with a collection of live tracks titled Wherever We May Roam, as well as a 28-page booklet.
The Metallica 3 CD Expanded Edition is available for pre-order HERE.
The most suprising release from the campaign however, is the 7 LP box set titled The Metallica Blacklist. This limited edition contains versions of songs from the Black Album covered by some of the biggest artists in the music industry, including Weezer, Mac DeMarco, The Chats, Corey Taylor, Phoebe Bridgers, Miley Cyrus, Elton John, Yo-Yo Ma, IDLES, Rodrigo y Gabriela, and many more! All music is overseen by executive producer Giles Martin, and profits from the box set will be split evenly between the All Within My Hands Foundation and charities chosed by the artists themselves.
The Metallica Blacklist will be released alongside the other editions and is available for pre-order HERE.
Not all of the releases coming out are as decadent as those above though. If you're anything like me, you've always meant to get yourself a copy of the Black Album, but just haven't gotten to it yet, or have just thought that you would wait until there was a brand spanking new remastered anniversary edition. Well, the wait it over!
Metallica 2021 remastered reissue 2 LP will be releasing alongside the others and is available for pre-order HERE.
All sets are expected to be released around mid-September. You can check all of them out at our Metallica Black Album reissue page HERE.
Metallica has definitely taken up the spotlight today, but there will be even more to share next time, as there are so many more cool things on their way. Until then though, look after yourselves.
