News Catch-up 30 October 2020

Welcome to the last week of October! This year seems to be going fast, huh? And yet at times, it seems to be dragging on. Regardless of all the stuff that's been happening this year, it certainly hasn't disappointed us in terms of music releases. Sure, some stuff has been delayed a lot, but the quality of releases are nonetheless amazing. Like for example...

Newly arrived in our store is the 50th anniversary edition of The Doors’ classic album Morrison Hotel. Just like the previous 50th anniversary editions of The Doors’ albums, this collection is full of studio outtakes and rehearsals carefully curated by original engineer and mixer Bruce Botnick. These bonus tracks - which include original arrangements of Queen Of The Highway, as well as different bass playing on Roadhouse Blues by Lonnie Mack and harmonica by The Lovin’ Spoonful’s John Sebastian (credited as G. Puglese) – are included on CD. The original album, now remastered by Bruce Botnick, is available on a 2nd CD, as well as a 180gm vinyl. Along with a booklet containing details on the album and the outtake tracks, the discs are all contained within a hardcover book with original artwork.

This is a truly awesome edition. I speak with pure bias here as Morrison Hotel is one of my favourite albums (and definitely my favourite Doors record), and yes, I have bought my own copy and am truly looking forward to playing it instore whilst processing all of your online orders. Buy your copy of Morrison Hotel 50th anniversary edition here.

Another recent treat for all you Doors fans out there is the recently released The Soft Parade Stripped. Essentially an alternative version of The Doors' 4th album featuring 'Doors only' mixes of the tracks, as well as new guitar overdubs by Robby Krieger. This edition was an RSD exclusive but is now readily available through our online store here.

In terms of pre-orders, there is another big line-up of awesome announcements. Where to begin? Well, why not with The Crow?!

That’s right: as part of the “Rocktober” special releases, we are getting a re-release of the triple platinum soundtrack to the 1994 classic The Crow. Featuring songs from Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against The Machine, The Cure, Pantera, Nine Inch Nails and Violent Femmes; The Crow is coming out on double black vinyl with an etching on the D-side. For 26 years, The Crow has been regarded as one of the best soundtrack albums around, and the way our pre-orders are lining up, it is still just as popular. Get your own pre-order in right here. Although The Crow is due for release today, expect shipments of it by around mid-November.

Fans of Sade have been wanting a comprehensive collection of the studio albums for quite some time now, and in November this year, they will finally have just that. Sade This Far is a 6 LP box set that includes Diamond Life, Promise, Stronger Than Pride, Love Deluxe, Lovers Rock and Solder Of Love. All albums have been remastered from high resolution digital transfers of the stereo masters, from the original analogue tapes, and remastered at half-speed at (where else?) Abbey Road Studios. All albums are packaged within a beautiful white bound box. Orders for this set are already piling up, so make sure you get your pre-orders in as soon as possible here

Another very awesome collection of re-releases coming out later this year is the Bob Marley & the Wailers 2020 remastered series. All studio albums, 2 live albums and the compilation album Legend are being re-released on vinyl - all them having been remastered at half-speed at (you guessed it!) Abbey Road Studios. Pre-order your copies here.

Accompanying the release of these vinyl LPs is the CD box set The Complete Island Recordings. This includes the 9 studio albums, Catch A Fire, Burnin', Natty Dread, Rastaman Vibration, Exodus, Kaya, Survival, Uprising, Confrontation, and the 2 live albums, Live! and Babylon By Bus. All of them are housed in a cardboard box with a hinged lid designed to appear like a 'Zippo' lighter. Just why Bob Marley fans would be excited about the prospect of a lighter is beyond me...

However, I know I defintely will be pre-ordering this CD box set myself. And you all should too. In fact do so right here.

That is all for today, music fans. But we'll be back very soon with, what I'm sure, will be even more exciting music announcements. Take car til then.

Oh, and Happy Halloween!!!!

The re-issue industry is amazingly active. So much in your bulletin sounds great, Alex. A Zippo 'Catch a Fire' has long been on my 'grail' list. That box might have to do!
