News Catch-up 23 December 2021

With a little over a week of 2021 left, we thought it would be an oppurtune time to look back at some of the big releases of this year, namely ones from the last few months that have been highly anticipated and massive sellers via our webstore.

First up is the latest release from The Beatles. Coinciding with the release of Peter Jackson's Get Back (a 3-part documentary series reccomended as must-see viewing by all of us here at Discrepancy!) the new 2021 mix of Let It Be was released with great anticipation. Although recorded before Abbey RoadLet It Be wound up being released as The Beatles' final studio album. With a brand new mix by Giles Martin, this version presents a warm yet raw depiction of what The Beatles did best: playing damn good rock 'n' roll!

Another highly anticipated release was the new re-recorded version of Taylor Swift's Red, aptly titled Taylor's Version. Comprised of 30 tracks (9 of which have been pulled from the vaults), never-before-seen photos, artwork and handwritten lyrics for the 10 minute version of All Too Well, Red Taylor's Version is a must-have for all Taylor Swift fans.

Proving to be one of the rare 'nice suprises' of 2021, was the announcement of ABBA's first new studio album in 40 years. Voyage was released alongside the news that ABBA would be regrouping and performing (albeit digitally in mid 2022).

Making everyone who grew up in the 1990's feels officially old, is the 30th anniversary release of Nirvana's seminal grunge rock album, Nevermind. This new version includes newly remastered tracks from the original analog tapes and is bundled with a bonus 7'' disc that includes the tracks Endless Nameless, Even In His Youth and Aneurysm.

Radiohead blew us all away in November with their release of Kid A Mnesia - a special anniversary edition that compiles the previous studio albums Kid A and Amnesiac, and includes the new Kid Amnesiae (a compilation of alternate versions and never-before-heard tracks).

September saw the release of the 17th studio album from Metal legends themselves: Iron Maiden. Senjutsu was a welcome return for Maiden, invoking Japanese Samurai imagery and thrashing our ear canals with raccous electric guitars for 82 minutes straight.

KISS exploded back onto our turntables last November with the 45th anniversary of their all-time bestselling album Destroyer. Featuring half-speed mastered audio from Abbey Road Mastering Studios, 12 bonus tracks and a 20-page booklet, this was the release that inspired a figurative warcry of joy from the KISS Army!
