News Catch-up 25 February 2021

Wow, we're almost at the end of February. As a matter of fact, this will be our final News Catch-up of the month. But judging by the releases we're covering in this edition, it's very possible that we've saved the best announcements til last.

It's been a great time to be a Neil Young fan, with the Return To Greendale live album just recently released (available here) and the upcoming Archives Vol. 2 1972 - 1976 CD box set on its way (available here). Now, before the end of March, fans are going to get a very special Neil Young release. How special, you ask? Well how about a live concert not heard or seen in its entirety for 50 years?!

Yep, whilst looking through the archives for material for future releases, Neil Young and Co. came across the 16mm film and audio of a live concert from The Shakespeare Theatre on 22 January 1971. Playing solo, Young performed tracks from the recently released After The Gold Rush, and the soon-to-be released Harvest, as well as renditions of Ohio, Cowgirl In The Sand, and Down By The River. The concert was shown once on German TV later that year. With the analog tapes all being restored, Young Shakespeare presents (in Young's own words) "one of the most pure sounding acoustic performances we have in the archive."

Neil Young Young Shakespeare will be released on single LP (available here) and on an LP / CD / DVD box set (available here).

From Canadian / American icon, to Australian icons (and yes, Neil Finn himself has confirmed that they're an Australian band!); Dreamers Are Waiting is the recently announced upcoming album from Crowded House, the first from the band in more than 10 years.

In a press statement that accompanied the announcement of the album, Neil Finn said, "The original band mentality and philosophy is still in there, especially with Mitchell Froom now part of it again, working in a different way along with Nick Seymour and I."

Whilst a lot of solo artists such as Taylor Swift, Paul McCartney and Alice Cooper have been able to put together new albums during the lockdown of 2020, it has been uncommon for bands with several members to be able to do the same. Addressing that topic in the statement though, Finn went on to say, "We were fortunate to be recording in the studio right before lockdown and so began this album with band tracks recorded in a room, all brimming with character and energy. We then spent our strangest year, 2020, at distance from each other but connecting daily, swapping files and making those tracks complete."

There it is. Recorded right before lockdown and mixed during, Dreamers Are Waiting is now complete and ready to drop in early June this year. It is going to be available in a blue vinyl edition (available here) and in an indie exclusive bone-white vinyl edition (available here).

Arriving in our store this March, we have a special treat for Metallica fans: limited coloured vinyl reissues of 6 of Metallica's studio albums. Originally exclusive to Walmart in the US, we have a limited stock coming to our store and availalble for pre-order now. The albums are as follows:
