News Catch-up 25 March 2021

Well, we are back with the last News Catch-up of March 2021. Geez, let that just sink in for a second.... and then get excited about all the new music releases we have coming your way!

Following on from last week's discussion about John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band Ultimate Mixes Super Deluxe box set (available to pre-order here), this week, we are happy to announce that there will also be available a double vinyl LP of the album. This includes the original album with the all new 'Ultimate Mix' overseen and produced by Yoko Ono; plus a second disc containing out-takes and rehearsals from the original studio sessions.

Expected to arrive the same time (mid-April) as the aforementioned Super Deluxe box set, John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band The Ultimate Mixes 2 LP is available to pre-order here

It seems a natural transition to go from John Lennon to Paul McCartney, doesn't it? Well, that's exactly what I'm about to do. This July sees the release of McCartney III Imagined. Less than a year after the release of McCartney III, the man himself has overseen and curated a collection of remixes and covers in what has been described as "a kaleidoscopic reinterpretation of the album".

The album features versions of the original McCartney III tracklist by artists including Beck, Khraungbin, St. Vincent, Blood Orange, Phoebe Bridgers, EOB, Damon Albarn, Josh Homme, Anderson .Paak, 3D RDN, Idris Elba and Dominic Fike.

The Dominic Fike track - a cover of The Kiss Of Venus - will be the first to be released in April as a digital single. Turning what was originally a tender acoustic ballad into a "retro-futuristic R&B tour de force", the track is sure to give listeners an idea of what the McCartney III Imagined project is all about.

Available towards the end of July, McCartney III Imagined will be available through our store as an indie exclusive gold-coloured vinyl version. Pre-order here

And don't worry, like the original McCartney III, there are sure to be a myriad of versions and colour variants for you to choose from (or even add to the collection). We will update the details as they become available to us.

This April we'll see an awesome installment to the Pink Floyd catalogue: Live At Knebworth 1990. Although included in 2019's Later Years box set, this is the first time it will be available individually on both CD and double LP.

Recorded live at Knebworth House, Hertfordshire at the 1990 Silver Clef Winners, Pink Floyd (consisting of David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright) topped a bill that included Paul McCartney, Dire Straits, Genesis, Phil Collins, Mark Knopfler, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Cliff Richard, Eric Clapton and Tears For Fears.

Pink Floyd's set included Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 1-5, Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb, Money and The Great Gig In The Sky (original vocalist from the song, Clare Torry, appears during the recording). Joining the rest of the band is saxophone player Candy Dulfer, as well as keyboardist / composer Michael Kamen.

Featuring audio remixed by David Gilmour and Andy Jackson, and featuring new cover artwork created by Aubrey 'Po' Powell of Hipgnosis and Peter Curzon of Storm Studios, Pink Floyd Live At Knebworth 1990 is available to pre-order here

Alice Cooper is back with us this year with a brand new album recorded during the lockdown of 2020. Detroit Stories eschews the more theatrical monster acts that Cooper is known for, and instead settles back into that hard and fast rock of Detroit City from the late 60's / early 70's where the original Alice Cooper band cut their teeth. Featuring the singles, Rock & Roll and Our Love Will Change The World, Detroit Stories is available from our store now as a limited edition box set.

As well as the CD of the album, this set also includes a Blu-Ray of Alice Cooper's live concert A Paranormal Evening At The Olympia Paris (featuring PCM stereo and 5.1 DTS Master Audio), an extra large T-shirt (depicting Alice standing in front of a Detroit-made car), a COVID-safe face mask, 3 stickers, and a torch light that shines the image of Alice's 'Ol' Black Eyes' themselves onto whatever it's pointed at.

Alice Cooper's Detroit Stories CD / Blu-Ray box set is available to purchase here

A big Catch-up installment for classic rock fans, for sure. But we already have so many new releases of all different genres to talk about in the coming weeks. Get excited and we'll see you next time!
