Weekly News Catch-up 05 February 2020

Welcome to February, or as we here at Discrepancy like to call it: a whole 'nother month of record collecting and listening! Oh, and not to mention a whole bunch of anticipating upcoming releases. And speaking of...

This month we are excited to welcome a whole new range to the ever-expanding product list at Discrepancy: Cadabra Records. For those unaware, Cadabra is a label that publishes spoken word recordings of classic horror ficton, as well as original horror audio dramas. In the range, you will find interpretations of stories from classic writers like Edgar Allen Poe and H.P. Lovecraft. Accompanying the spoken words and audio dramas is original score by select composers. Every one of these records comes in a cover adorned with glorious original artwork by commissioned by artists, and most include a unique coloured vinyl, as well as bonus prints and posters. For fans of classic horror literature and the macabre, these recordings are sure to be a treat. These are defintely records designed for midnight dreary with the headphones turned to a curious volume of forgotten lore...

One of the biggest names in rock and metal - and possessing a near legendary status - Ozzy Osbourne is hitting the record shelves again with his brand new studio album, 'Ordinary Man'. The man once famous for his Sabbath and bat-biting shenanigans is not known for taking half measures and, needless to say, this album is no exception. Joining Ozzy on this aptly-named (I guess) album are Guns N' Roses members Slash and Duff McKagan, as well as Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. Oh, and at some point during production, Ozzy realised he needed a piano player on the album. Well, when you're Ozzy Osbourne and you need a piano player for your album, who else do you get? Elton John of course. No big deal. With song titles like 'Straight To Hell' and 'Under The Graveyard', this record looks to stay true to Ozzy's black-magic-theatrical form. The album will be available on standard black, black/white marble and picture disc. Set to release at the end of Feb, however the different versions may be coming in at seperate times. Pre-order the copy of your choice now!

The next few months will also see the release of two albums - previously only released on CD - finally coming out on vinyl. First up is Joni Mitchell's 'Shine'. First released in 2007, this album contains the hit track 'One Week Last Summer', which went on to win the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Also present is 'Big Yellow Taxi (2007)', a newly reworked version of Mitchell's 1970 single (also appearing on the studio album 'Ladies Of The Canyon'). The second album seeing its first vinyl release is The Cranberries' 'Dreams: The Collection'. Originally released as a 20 track CD compilation, this album has now been reworked as an 11 track vinyl, including the hit songs 'Linger' and 'Zombie'. 'Shine' is expected to release early April, and 'Dreams: The Collection' is expected early March. Both are available to pre-order now.
