New Wave

New Wave is said to have originated in the early 1970s with successful bands such as Ian Dury, Nick Lowe, Eddie and the Hot Rods and Dr. Feelgood started exposing the genre to the world. But it was bands like The Pretenders that spent a lot of time in the charts and cementing the New Wave genre. New Wave is a term used to describe a large group of various styles all rooted in Pop but often the sound is described as featuring electronic influences with heavy synthesizers and a quirky vibe.
