News Catch-up 10 August 2023

Welcome back everyone. Whilst we are finally in the last month of Winter, the cold still continues. But it's hard to stay freezing when the upcoming music releases are as hot as they are! Here's just a few that are just waiting to sizzle on your turntables...

Steely Dan's 1977 platinum-selling studio album, Aja, is getting a marvelous reissue, remastered from non-EQ'd analog tapes, by none other than legendary record engineer, Bernie Grundman.

Since its original release, Aja has not only gone platinum, but has also gone on to be regarded as one of the best albums ever recorded; even securing the 63rd spot in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. Featuring the three hit singles, PegJosie and Deacon BluesAja is truly a seminal album and holds its musical reputation with justified flair.

Expected to release at the end of September, Steely Dan's Aja 2023 reissue is available to pre-order HERE.

The Living End's self-titled is getting a beautiful re-release on black & red splatter vinyl, in order to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Originating from Melbourne (just like Discrepancy itself!), The Living End dropped their debut album in 1998, where it debuted at #1 and spent no less than 27 weeks in the Aus top 10, and 83 weeks in the Aus top 100.

Accompanying this new version of the album is a second disc containing a live performance recorded by Australia's Triple J. This recording has not been heard since it was played on the radio only once in the late 90s. It was thought to be lost until discovered on a fan site in 2022. It has since been remastered and completes this very beautiful 25th anniversary release, which is slated to release in October.

To celebrate 50 years since they formed, Aerosmith are getting a fantastic greatest hits compilation, dropping later this August. This double LP release will feature, not just Aerosmith's greatest tracks, but some of the greatest rock song of all time, including:

  • Water Song / Janie's Got A Gun
  • Dude (Looks Like A Lady)
  • Walk This Way
  • Sweet Emotion
  • Cryin'
  • Dream On
  • Livin' On The Edge

Aerosmith Greatest Hits 2 LP is availble to pre-order HERE.

Oh, and head on over HERE to stay notified about the exclusive red splatter vinyl edition.

Since 1898 (yes, really!), Deutsche Grammophon has been a record label that has prided itself as featuring only the best, and most talented classical music and composers. So, it is no suprise that their latest release will feature none other than legendary Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi.

For this very special release, Hisaishi has re-arranged several of his famed Studio Ghibli soundtrack pieces and has conducted them with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London. Also featuring on the recordings are Grace Davidson, Avi Avital, Bach Choir, and Stephen Morris.

Included in the double LP set are tracks from:

  • Princess Mononoke
  • Castle In The Sky
  • Kiki's Delivery Service
  • Ponyo
  • Porco Rosso
  • Howl's Moving Castle

To top it off, both discs of the set will be pressed on beautiful blue vinyl.

Joe Hisaishi's A Symphonic Celebration is expected to release in September. Go HERE to stay notified on its release.
