Cocteau Twins

Cocteau Twins

While the soaring, hypnotic voice of Elizabeth Fraser is certainly the defining feature of Scots band Cocteau Twins, their effects-drenched guitars and deceptively dense sound owe something to the intensity of Joy Division and Siouxsie & The Banshees. The sub-genre of 'dream pop' was essentially coined for the Cocteaus, who formed in the late 1970s and disbanded in 1997. The sound of the earlier albums (such as the 1982 debut Garlands) softened and expanded after Simon Raymonde joined, leading to some wonderful E.P.s and mesmerising discs such as Treasure (1984) and Milk & Kisses (1996).
