George Benson

George Benson

The Pennsylvania born singer and guitarist began his career way back in the 1950s. Honing his jazz chops with legends Herbie Hancock, organist Brother Jack McDuff and—crucially—Wes Montgomery, Benson’s career really took off when he signed to Creed Taylor’s CTI record label in 1971. A number of highly regarded jazz albums followed.

Taking a lead from fellow guitarist Wes Montgomery, George Benson adapted popular song to his jazz stylings, and really hit the big time after a move to Warner Brothers in the mid-1970s. Hit albums such as In Flight and Give Me The Night (1980) made him a hugely successful crossover star. With over forty albums to his credit, Benson continues to be a popular jazz-pop performer.
