Green Day

A power punk trio for most of their career, Green Day formed in Berkley, California in 1987 where they were part of the Bay Area punk scene of the late Eighties. The band’s breakthrough came in 1994 with their third studio album, Dookie, which had several hit singles including "Longview" and "When I come around".

The 2004 album American Idiot was a massive hit around the world, selling over 16 million copies worldwide. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool released the album Father Of All Motherfuckers in 2020 and continue to play live.

Pondering whether long-term commercial success is acceptable for a punk rock band, Armstrong mused, "You can take us out of a punk rock environment, but you can't take the punk rock out of us." (Quote from Wikipedia’s Green Day page)
