Helen Reddy

Australian born singer Helen Reddy began her show biz career early, joining her performer parents on the vaudeville circuit at the tender age of four years old. After moving to the US, Reddy struggled to get a foothold in the highly competitive music industry, eventually releasing her first single in 1967. The song didn't do much, chart wise, though it did enter the lower reaches of the Australian Hit Parade.

Everything changed for Helen Reddy when her "I Am Woman" single hit the #1 spot on the Billboard Chart in late 1972. Co-written with fellow Aussie Ray Burton, the song made it to the #2 position in Australia. "I Am Woman" struck a powerful chord with the social changes and challenges of the time, becoming a classic anthem. Further success followed, and though Ms Reddy's musical career declined in the 1980s, she worked regularly in theatre and television and made several film appearances.
