James Brown

Nicknamed "The Godfather of Soul", American singer, songwriter and band leader James Brown began his career as a gospel singer in the 1940s before transitioning to R&B and funk in the 1950s. His hard-working approach and powerful stage presence made him a legend and an enduring chart success; Brown had hit singles in every decade from the 1960s through the 1990s. Now that is longevity. Brown’s memorable singles included "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag," "I Got You (I Feel Good)," and "It's a Man's Man's Man's World." He continued to perform and record music until his death in 2006.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005, James Brown received many awards and accolades during his career and is widely considered one of the most important figures in the history of popular music.
