Miles Davis

Miles Davis

One of the most influential and acclaimed figures in the history of jazz, Miles Davis rose to prominence in the late 1940’s via the Birth Of The Cool sessions, whose cuts became a bebop beacon for the changing sound of jazz. A restless innovator, Miles was at the forefront of many of developments in the evolving sound of jazz. Bebop, Cool, Hard Bop, Modal, Jazz-Rock… the man was both instrumental innovator and band leader extraordinaire. Every period and style has album highlights, from the cool of Milestones, through the Gil Evans orchestrated Sketches of Spain to the exquisite modal tones of jazz’s most famous album, Kind of Blue.

But Miles did not stop there! Davis helped forge jazz-rock in the legendary Bitches Brew sessions, then toured in the 70s to huge acclaim from rock audiences. After a hiatus, he returned with a sparse electric jazz-funk sound heard on Amandla (1989) and other LPs. With over a hundred album credits, there’s a Miles Davis album for every mood.
