Prince

Prince

The multi-talented Prince Rogers Nelson released two albums in the late seventies which many people have never heard: "For You" and "Prince". But the dynamic musician became a major musical force in the eighties and nineties with several albums that have achieved 'classic' status. Whipping funk, dance, rock and soul into an infectious smoothie, Prince used a cast of musicians who could both realise his sonic visions in the studio and also deliver stunning live shows.

Purple Rain, released in 1984, was the worldwide breakthrough hit, yielding the massive singles “When Doves Cry” and the title track, as well as the irresistible “Let’s Go Crazy”.

During his relatively short life (Prince was only 57 when he died suddenly in 2016) the artist-of-the-changing-names released some forty albums. Now that’s prolific! Since his death, there have been several posthumous releases, as well as some gorgeous re-issues of key albums, including the 2020 deluxe versions of Sign O’ The Times.
