U2

Like being swooped by a squadron of 747s piloted by super-cool rock missionaries, the combined sound and vision of Dublin’s U2 is a massive—at times overwhelming—force. Lit by an earnest fire, Bono, The Edge and rhythm section conquered the world for a sizeable chunk of the 80s and 90s, not forgetting two #1 albums in the 21st century.

Having toured regularly throughout their long career, U2 continue to perform live to their legion of fans, often employing massive sets to add spectacle and high tech grandeur to their shows. The 2023 shows at the Las Vegas Sphere are a great example.

If you are a believer, at least four of their albums are core canon: The Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree, Zooropa and the live Rattle & Hum. For others, the compilation U2 18 Singles will provide a satisfying introduction.
