Boards Of Canada

Electronica has had a range of duos, from Air to Daft Punk. Scottish musicians Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin (brothers, unexpectedly) have none of the lounge chic or theatrical posturing of the former two outfits but what they do have is a small but extraordinarily solid catalogue of electronic music. Boards of Canada formed in their local region of northern Scotland in the mid-90s, the first major release was the highly regarded Music Has The Right To Children, which combined influences of a number of electronica streams with thoughtful, understated rhythms to produce an album simultaneously engaging and transporting. Their subsequent releases explored this territory, with beguiling and sometimes mysterious soundscapes that can be enjoyed many times with new revelations each spin.
