Brockhampton, stylized in all caps, was an American hip hop boy band founded in 2010 as AliveSinceForever in San Marcos, Texas. Led by Kevin Abstract and formed partially through online music discussion forum KanyeToThe, Brockhampton was a self-described boy band, so-called in an effort to redefine the term. Complex magazine describes the group as "gay, black, white, DIY, ambitious, all-inclusive, and would-be pop stars," and this diversity is what largely distinguishes their lyrics and sound. The group's final line-up consisted of vocalists Abstract, Matt Champion, Merlyn Wood, and Dom McLennon, vocalists/producers Joba, Bearface, and Jabari Manwa and producers Romil Hemnani and Kiko Merley, as well as graphic designer Henock "HK" Sileshi, photographer Ashlan Grey, web designer Roberto Ontenient (who also featured prominently in voice skits), and manager Jon Nunes.
Brockhampton, often stylised in all caps, emerged as a revolutionary force within the hip hop landscape, redefining the concept of a boy band. Founded by Kevin Abstract, the group originated in San Marcos, Texas, and quickly gained traction through their eclectic and inclusive approach to music. Their sound is a unique blend of hip hop, pop, and R&B, characterised by diverse influences and a DIY ethos. This diversity is mirrored in the group's line-up, which includes vocalists, producers, and visual artists, contributing to a rich tapestry of sound and visual storytelling. Brockhampton's ability to seamlessly integrate various musical styles and personal narratives has cemented their place as one of the most innovative acts in contemporary music.
Among Brockhampton's most notable releases are the 'Saturation' trilogy and 'Iridescence', which marked their major-label debut. The 'Saturation' series was pivotal in establishing their reputation, showcasing their versatility and the raw energy that defines their work. 'Iridescence', recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, further exemplified their ability to push creative boundaries while maintaining a cohesive sound. The album 'Ginger' followed, continuing their exploration of personal themes and sonic experimentation. Brockhampton's discography reflects their commitment to authenticity and innovation, resonating with a diverse audience and solidifying their status as trailblazers in the music industry.
