Cat Stevens

Cat Stevens

Although Cat Stevens (born Steven Georgiou, now Yusef) released an impressive eleven albums between 1967 and 1978, it is the pair comprising Tea For The Tillerman and Teaser And The Firecat (1970 and ’71 respectively) whose superlative song-writing gained Stevens world-wide acclaim and global success. His folk-influenced songs—exploring relationships, spiritual concerns, and life in the world—touched a chord with audiences then, and now. Accompanied by the sympathetic acoustic guitar of Alun Davies, those albums glow with a quiet radiance suggesting their popularity will continue as long as songs are sung. After returning to music in the 90s, Yusef has toured and recorded, including a forthcoming re-visiting of Tea For The Tillerman, due in 2020. The 2-LP hits package Collected is a parcel of jewels.
