Dave Brubeck

Pianist Dave Brubeck has the distinction of having created one of the most enduringly popular albums in jazz, the luminescent Time Out, a thoroughly entertaining LP graced by the hit tune “Take Five”. With long-term collaborator Paul Desmond (alto sax) Brubeck epitomised the sound of West Coast Cool, yet the accessible jazz belied the craft and skill of Brubeck’s compositions. He experimented with time signatures throughout his career (eg: Time Further Out) and although his most significant decades were the 50s and 60s (with Desmond), the pianist continued to produce high quality music during the next three decades and even into the 21st century.
