David Bowie

David Bowie

Was there is a solo artist more influential across the decades than David Bowie? The chameleon of rock started as a folk-influenced singer song-writer, invented one of the most potent personas in pop-rock with Ziggy Stardust, explored drugs and American culture as the Thin White Duke (Station To Station) and absorbed the potent elixir of 70s ‘krautrock’ during his Berlin period (Low, "Heroes"). And this progression only gets us to the beginning of the eighties!

Scary Monsters (1980) showed that Bowie's art rock credentials were still glowing, while the pop radio-friendly Let's Dance invited a new generation of fans on board. Then there is Bowie in the 1990s, and the 2000s... the man was a creative powerhouse.

Bowie’s catalogue is deep and diverse, so for openers you could do a lot worse than the excellent Changes compilations and explore from there. Otherwise, we recommend Ziggy Stardust, Low, a live album such as Stage, Reality, and Bowie's final album Blackstar.
