David Gilmour

Recruited to Pink Floyd in 1968 as the mental health of founder Syd Barrett deteriorated, guitarist and singer David Gilmour was a key player in the development of the Floyd sound. He released his first solo album in 1978 as tensions in the band he’d co-piloted to worldwide fame and fortune rose to suffocating levels. After Roger Waters departure, Gilmour became leader of Pink Floyd, the first album of this new configuration coming a couple of years after Gilmour’s second solo effort, About Face.

It was a twenty-two year wait for the next David Gilmour LP (On An Island) and another nine until his last solo release, 2015’s Rattle That Lock. There have been tours, of course, where the mercurial guitarist drew from all phases of his former band’s career as well as his own catalogue. The concert film/album Live in Pompeii documents a 2017 performance, evoking echoes of the famous Pink Floyd film recorded at the ancient Greek stadium in 1972.
