Donovan

Donovan

Scottish troubadour Donovan Leitch was touted as 'the British Bob Dylan' in the mid 1960s. This uncomfortable label did him little commercial good and even less to endear him to the cliquey UK folk community. Nevertheless, Donovan was an excellent acoustic guitar player and wrote a string of hits that graced some of the Swinging Sixties most beloved albums. "Sunshine Superman", "Mellow Yellow" and the anti-war "Universal Soldier" were all massively popular songs that Donovan supported by touring regularly. Although his popularity waned over the years, Donovan continued to record solid albums and his combination of hippy idealism, fine melodies and a whimsical singing voice still endear him to many.

And here is a lesser known factoid. On the Allman Brothers Band’s live double Eat A Peach, the epic "Mountain Jam" is based on Donovan’s "There is a Mountain".
