Genesis

Genesis

One of the most important progressive rock bands of the Seventies, Genesis formed at a posh English public school way back in 1967. It took them a little while (and a couple of personnel changes) to find their collective feet, but with 1972’s Nursery Cryme, the band fronted by Peter Gabriel and propelled by Phil Collins’ drums hit their prog stride. Gabriel departed for a solo career after The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (a fan favourite) but the band continued making inventive, accessible art-rock, now featuring Collins on vocals. A commercial high point was 1986’s Invisible Touch, by which time Genesis were down to the trio of Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford. Other LP highlights are Duke and Abacab.
