Hilltop Hoods

Hilltop Hoods

Hailing from outer suburban Adelaide, Hilltop Hoods are considered one of the most important Australian hip hop acts. Certainly fans agree. At the time of writing five of their albums—packed with clever raps and larrikin humour—have reached #1 on the Aussie charts.

Forming in the late 1990s, the Hoods added a prefix: the nickname for the suburb where founder members Suffa and Pressure met at school. Their first release, in 1997, was a vinyl only E.P. which showed how ahead of the vinyl revival curve they were.

In addition to impressive albums sales, the trio have won a bagful of APRA and ARIA awards. They have contributed to a fund-raising CD for youth cancer patients, founded a modest fund to support emerging artists, and a single ("I'm Good") aimed at supporting road crew and other music workers made redundant by public health measures during the pandemic.

After releasing The Great Expanse in 2019, they toured in support of Eminem in that year. A national tour is took place in 2022, concluding in their home town of Adelaide.
