New Zealand born Lorde clearly thought her birth name—Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor—was a bit of a mouthful for the pop scene. Given how incredibly popular the singer/songwriter has become since her 2013 debut Pure Heroine, she probably could have called herself anything at all. With a sound best described as quirky electropop, Lorde has released a further two albums, each four years apart. Along the way she has accumulated an impressive array of accolades, from Grammy nominations through two Brit awards to a basketful of New Zealand Music Awards.
Solar Power (2021) shows the twenty-four year old embracing indie folk influences while singing about how nice things are when the weather is warm. The cheeky cover image was shot by her friend Ophelia, at the beach. A woman of many artistic interests, Lorde could move in any direction next, including, she said in an interview with The Age, perfume making.
