MF Doom

MF Doom

Eclectic, eccentric, prolific and very hard to pin down to a particular style, the enigmatic hip-hop artist MF DOOM has been releasing music under his own various monikers and with a startling range of collaborators since the tail end of the twentieth century. With a comic book visual style and a restless productivity, the chap born Daniele Dumile to a Dad from Zimbabwe and a mum from Trinidad is regarded as a true original in the scene.

Tracking DOOM’s recorded output would require a major spreadsheet, but here is a small sample.

The 2003 album Take Me To Your Leader was released under the name King Geedorah, while Vaudeville Villain (also 2003) was credited to Viktor Vaughn. He then teamed up with Madlib to form Madvillain and released Madvillainy in 2004 (to ecstatic reviews). His instrumental albums were hugely influential and formed the basis for a collaborative album with MF Grimm… also in 2004. Sadly, MF DOOM’s colourful career was curtailed by his untimely death in 2020.
