My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance

Formed by lead singer Gerard Way in 2001, partly as a response to the September 11 attacks in the USA, My Chemical Romance play a highly charged indi rock that owes something to Queen and later theatrically explosive groups like Muse, while also incorporating influences from goth (Bauhaus, for example) and post-punk (Green Day).

The band’s 2006 album, The Black Parade, was a tour de force that achieved multi-platinum sales with a twenty-first century rock opera. After a gruelling tour to support that epic release, My Chemical Romance took a break to recover and re-invent their musical persona. The result was the lavishly titled Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys (2010), a stripped down pop-punk affair that performed well in the charts, despite not challenging the massive success of its predecessor. MCR announced they were calling it quits in March 2013, releasing a greatest hits compilation to signify the end.

In May 2022 My Chemical Romance released "The Foundations of Decay", a big progressive metal single. Fans are desperately hoping this signals a reanimation of the band.
