War Vinyl LP CDs and Box Sets
US funk outfit War were already veteran musicians on the West Coast scene when they encountered British Invasion legend Eric Burdon. The singer adopted them as his backing band and produced a couple of memorable hits, including "Spill the wine". They toured extensively to great acclaim; the combination of funk, soul, jazz touches and great playing reaching audiences who might not otherwise have tried out this exciting music. And here’s a factoid for you: Jimi Hendrix joined them on stage at London’s Ronnie Scott’s Club the day before he died. It was his last public appearance.
In the seventies, War made a series of well received albums, with 1972’s All Day Music being certified "gold". The band continued into the eighties, with several partial reunions since then. It’s fair to say the seventies LPs are the ones funk fans reach for when they think War.
