After 60 years, The Twang is STILL the Thang!
By: ANDREW KING on 19 December 2023When this album was first released in the USA in 1959, I was 13 years old and on the cusp of what soon became a life-long obsession with instrumental rock'n'roll. I discovered Duane Eddy in the year that followed through my purchase for 52 shillings and sixpence of his album "One Million Dollars' Worth of Twang" - a collection of some of his hits up to that point. The quality of Duane's recordings stood way above the rest of the instrumental rockers who were enjoying a brief period of success between 1959 and 1963, just prior to the Beatles Phenomenon. The tracks on this album provide a comprehensive representation of the Eddy sound – crisp, thick layers of guitar, tenor sax, piano, bass and drums, plus a satisfying sprinkle of trademark "rebel yells", all played and produced superbly by a lineup of top class studio musicians. This album was scarce in Australia at the time and its reissue now means that Duane Eddy fanatics like me can relive those exciting years of the early pre-Beatles 1960s when The Twang really was the Thang!

The addition of an outer plastic cover that fits large box sets was very welcome. A master class in customer service which I always get from the team at Discrepancy. Regards. Peter (Sheffield)
