With the massive success of their 2001 debut album "Ompa til du dør", Kaizers Orchestra part shocked, part rocked their native Norway with their gypsy-punk music and ecstatic live performances. For the "difficult" sophomore release the band was eager to show they had more than gypsy-punk to offer and set out to paint their musical landscape with deeper and darker colors. "Evig Pint" was written mostly on the road, more on guitar than on the characteristic pump organ, and the album drew more on heavier, more rock-oriented influences, than its predecessor. "Evig Pint" added to the uniqueness of the Kaizer sound, putting some gravity behind the up-beat Balkan party music of "Ompa" and set the way for the band to explore and expand their musical path further. "Evig Pint" was released in February 2003, went straight to number one on the official Norwegian album chart and went platinum later that year. The video for the title song was voted "Best Norwegian music video of all time" on the TV-program "Svisj", beating A-ha's "Take On Me" in the final, and also received a Norwegian Grammy (Spellemannprisen) the following year. "There is a real difference. I find that the original release is so compressed that the music almost implodes in, for example, the transition to choruses. With the new mastering, the music rather explodes, as was always our intention. It is much more open, has more punch, sounds louder and has greater dynamics. The record suddenly reminds a lot more of the live energy and thrust we were known for at concerts. I can only recommend all Kaizer fans to check this remaster out," concludes Ottesen.
