Title: | Mad Season Above |
Mad Season's "Above" is a 1995 album that stands as a powerful and haunting testament to the talent of the musicians involved. The band featured Layne Staley of Alice in Chains on vocals, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam on guitar, Barrett Martin of Screaming Trees on drums, and John Baker Saunders on bass. The album is a fusion of grunge, blues, and classic rock, with lyrics that explore themes of addiction, depression, and personal struggle.
The album features ten tracks, all of which showcase the band's incredible musicianship and emotional depth. The opening track, "Wake Up," features Staley's haunting vocals over a bluesy guitar riff and a driving rhythm section. Other standout tracks on the album include "River of Deceit," "I Don't Know Anything," and "Long Gone Day," all of which feature McCready's innovative guitar playing and Staley's soulful vocals.
One of the most impressive things about "Above" is the way that the band was able to create a cohesive and unified sound despite the disparate influences of the individual members. The album features a range of styles and genres, from hard rock to folk to blues, but it all comes together in a way that feels organic and natural.
Sadly, Mad Season was short-lived, and the band dissolved after just one album and a handful of live performances. However, "Above" remains a powerful and enduring work that stands as a testament to the talent of its members and the power of music to heal and inspire.
In conclusion, Mad Season's "Above" is a masterpiece of grunge and blues that showcases the incredible talent of its members. The album's blend of hard rock, folk, and blues creates a unique and innovative sound that is both haunting and beautiful. If you're a fan of grunge, blues, or classic rock, "Above" is an essential album that should not be missed.

Maya Jane Coles - Take Flight 3LP box set
Sent In By: Dave on 24 April 2024Well priced and super quick dispatch. Arrived in a sturdy mailer, complete with an oversized outer jacket for the box set, which saved me having to source that separately, and one inner sleeve. Although three inner sleeves would have been perfect (since there were 3 LPs) it was still much appreciated. Not many Sellers include either of those accessories. So all told, a very positive buying experience. Recommended, and i will be buying more LPs in future.
