AC/DC's "Back in Black" is widely considered to be one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Released in 1980, the album marked a turning point for the band, as it was their first album to feature lead singer Brian Johnson, who replaced original singer Bon Scott, who had passed away earlier that year. "Back in Black" went on to become one of the best-selling albums of all time, and its influence on hard rock and heavy metal cannot be overstated.
The album features ten tracks, all of which showcase the band's signature sound: high-energy, blues-based rock and roll, with catchy riffs, thundering drums, and Johnson's iconic, throaty vocals. The album's opening track, "Hells Bells," is one of the most recognizable and memorable songs in rock history, featuring a haunting, bell tolling intro and a pounding, driving rhythm.
Other standout tracks on the album include "Shoot to Thrill," "What Do You Do for Money Honey," and "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution," all of which feature the band's trademark swagger and attitude. The album's title track, "Back in Black," is a rock classic, with a relentless guitar riff and an unforgettable chorus that has become an anthem for generations of rock fans.
One of the most impressive things about "Back in Black" is the way that the band was able to overcome the tragedy of Bon Scott's death and create an album that not only honored his memory but also pushed the band to new heights. Brian Johnson's vocals are a perfect fit for the band's sound, and the album's production is tight and polished, with a perfect balance of raw energy and studio polish.
"Back in Black" remains a classic of the hard rock and heavy metal genres and has influenced countless bands in the decades since its release. Its catchy riffs, sing-along choruses, and high-energy performances have made it a staple of rock radio and a must-have for any serious rock fan.
In conclusion, AC/DC's "Back in Black" is a masterpiece of hard rock that showcases the band's signature sound at its best. From the thundering drums and catchy riffs to Brian Johnson's iconic vocals, the album is a tour de force of rock and roll energy and attitude. If you're a fan of classic rock or heavy metal, "Back in Black" is an essential album that should not be missed.

From potential disaster to legendary rock gods.
26 October 2019Despite the breakthrough of Highway to Hell, the death of Bon Scott spelt potential disaster for AC/DC. Despite the set-back, and upon the advice of producer John "Mutt" Lange, Brian Johnson was given the nod on March 29 1980. The recording of the album at Compass Point studios was delayed by severe tropical storms, though it did provide Johnson with an opportunity for Johnson to spend time coming up with new ideas for album tracks, some of which referenced the weather - "Hells Bells" ("I'm rolling thunder, pourin' rain. I'm comin' on like a hurricane. My lightning's flashing across the sky. You're only young but you're gonna die."). The album was an immediate commercial success, and subsequently went on to become of the best-selling albums of all-time. Oh, and by the way, the pressing is superb.
