Genre: Blues
Imagine, if you will, if Rufus Wainwright had been born in New Orleans at the turn of the century. Witty, soulful, urbane, and Southern through and through."-HONEST TUNE On I'm Glad Trouble Don't Last Always, Luke Winslow-King draws from a deep, dark creative well, turning heartbreak and divorce into an inspired soundtrack for picking up the pieces. Electric and sentimentally raw, it pulses through LWK's geographical stomping grounds, starting with the pre-war jive of New Orleans, travelling the bloodlines that flow along the Mississippi River toward the Delta bottleneck slide, and the funky meter of Memphis R&B. Further north, it takes a right for an infusion of greasy Chicago blues, and arrives at the headwaters of his birthplace in rural Michigan for some tell-it-like-it-is confessionals. Through nine songs, there are stylistic nods to a blend of contemporaries and influences like Gary Clark Jr, Bonnie Raitt and Ry Cooder while maintaining LWK's distinct musical voice. Although you know he's been through some hard times, Luke Winslow-King comes out on the other side knowing of love and loss. WB-S20591|Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing of the 2007 debut album by the Swedish rock band led by Pontus Snibb. ôIt's been a long time coming, in fact it's way overdue. Ever since I went through my dad's old vinyl collection as a kid, I've loved the format. Listening to the golden goodies, the classics and the legends... looking at the big pictures just dreaming away to that infamous rumble. To have this out on vinyl has been on my wish list from the very start. And now here it is on great sounding 180 gram vinyl for the first time. Stick that needle into the groove, turn the dials up and fill your head with rock, the way it was meant to sound.öPontus Snibb (Bonafide). WB-S21906|Vinyl LP pressing. With it's themes of perseverance, relentless, and owning your own power, Tightrope Walker (Yamagata's first album since 2011's Chesapeake), represents an artistic rebirth both lyrically and sonically for the Woodstock, NY-based artist. The album began when Yamagata had what she describes as a "mystical vision" at home in Woodstock. "I'm not religious, but I am spiritual and I love the signs," she says. "Did I 'see' a sweat lodge where strangers experienced a cathartic healing after facing their own traumas? Yes I did. They weren't pains devoted solely to heartbreak in relationships, but also to the desperation of a youth getting pummeled by loss of a loved one, failure of a dream, betrayal by those you thought were your allies - human condition struggles. I started to write and 'Tightrope Walker' was born. My musical identity started to shift and the sweetheart of tragedy transformed into grit and hope. My lyrics have become both vicious and optimistic and my musical identity has gone off the map. A 16 year-old indie rocker recently described it as 'a new genre of music,' and that suits me just fine." For her second independent release, Yamagata rounded up an illustrious array of guest performers, including such Grammy Award winners as Owen Biddle (The Roots), Matt Chamberlain, and Victor Indrizzo, as well as celebrated musicians Ben Perowsky (Rufus Wainwright), Zach Djanikian (Amos Lee), Kevin Salem (Dumptruck, Yo La Tengo), Russell Simins (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) and others. Yamagata self-produced Tightrope Walker and brought her long-time producer, 3x-Grammy nominee John Alagia (John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band) onboard halfway through the process as co-producer. WB-S16816|Vinyl LP pressing. Magnetic Eye Records Various Artists coming together to take on Helmet's game changing album Meantime. 15 bands all headed into the studio and covered Meantime cover to cover and various additional material from Helmet's catalog. Thank you to all the bands, engineers and individuals that have made this record possible. WB-S18656|2016 three CD set. Music Brokers presents a new volume in the series that has revolutionized the music industry: The Many Faces. This time it's The Beatles' turn, the greatest band of all time. CD One is dedicated completely to the years when Pete Best was The Beatles drummer (before Ringo Starr). CD Two is a tribute to their songs, and includes versions by stars such as Ike & Tina Turner, John Denver and Marmalade (who reached at # 1 in the UK with their version of 'Ob-La-Di, Ob -La-Da' and that is included in The Many Faces). CD Three is a fascinating tour through the originals versions of songs that The Beatles covered on their early EPs and albums. Includes songs like 'Anna', 'Twist And Shout' and 'Money (That's What I Want)'. The Many Faces Of The Beatles is a wonderful trip through the world of The Beatles, an album to collect and to treasure. WB-R96374|2016 three CD collection from the British pop/funk/jazz outfit led by Mark King. The first two CDs contain all the single edits and radio remixes and the bonus third CD contains 11 key 12-inch remixes.Features all the L42 classics including ôSomething About You,ö ôLessons In Love,ö ôHot Water,ö ôRunning In The Family,ö, ôChildren Say,ö ôThe Chant Has Begunö and many more. WB-S13336|180gm vinyl LP pressing, includes digital download. Nick's latest Never Twice is a culmination, intensification, and realization of everything he's been developing throughout this prolific frenzy. Catchier and loaded with more hits than it's predecessors, Nick's new LP is at the same time harder hitting, more rhythmic, more harmonic, more diverse, and more adventurous than any of the excellent work that already separated him from the pack. A cool and elegant post-post-modern cocktail of 1950s r&b and club jazz, mixed with 1960s soul and boogaloo, and shaken with a minimal contemporary sensibility, Never Twice finds the artist taking his time, refining his vision, and speaking with new authority. In five short years Nick Waterhouse has come a long way and it looks like he may have just painted his masterpiece. WB-S16647|This 4 CD collection gathers together for the first time the entire Ian Campbell Folk Group catalogue recorded for Transatlantic Records, covering the period 1963-1968. This collection includes 6 studio albums plus related bonus material from the period. The Ian Campbell Folk Group were one of the most respected, influential and best known British folk groups of the 1960's. Taking their origins from Aberdeen, the band formed in Birmingham in 1958. They signed to Transatlantic Records in 1963 and proceeded to record the content of this collection over the next 6 years. They topped the bill at the Royal Albert Hall, made numerous TV appearances, attended the Newport Folk Festival in 1964 and were prolific live performers throughout Europe. Dave Swarbrick and Dave Pegg who both achieved fame with Fairport Convention, are featured in this collection WB-S16672|2016 three CD collection. As that noted hipster Plato once observed, when the mode of the music changes, the walls of the city shake. And there was certainly a whole lotta shakin' goin' on in 1967. A distended Summer of Love saw psychedelic pop emerging from the underground clubs to infiltrate the home-grown music scene mainstream, with the vast majority following in the footsteps of perennial market leaders The Beatles in surrendering to the new genre. As the year progressed, it seemed that more or less every element of the British pop world had been swept up in the blissed-out UFOria. Beat boom survivors, R&B stalwarts, sharp-suited mods, Swinging London soul revues, earnest acoustic folkies, Denmark Street hustlers, traditional pop acts... all abandoned or refined their previous identities to make music that reflected the ubiquitous influence of psychedelia in it's myriad paisley-patterned guises. Across four hours and eighty tracks, the all-singing, not-much-dancing Let's Go Down And Blow Our Minds anticipates the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love to chronicle a tumultuous twelve-month period of music-making within the British Isles. The dizzying breadth of the set incorporates everything from key names such as The Move and Procol Harum, both represented with less obvious choices, to the likes of mondo obscuro West Country quintet T. J. Assembly, who pressed a mere 25 copies of their self-penned November 1967 album as a strictly personal memento of their time together. Along the way, we encounter all aspects of the scene, from the first generation psychedelic bands that took part in subterranean London 'happenings' to the shameless bandwagon-jumpers who were nevertheless an integral part of psychedelic pop's rich and varied tapestry. We also feature a clutch of previously unreleased nuggets, alternative versions, pseudonymous releases, first-ever CD appearances, a couple of inspired novelty discs and even a football supporters freak-out. Housed in a clambox that includes a lavishly annotated and illustrated 44-page booklet, Let's Go Down And Blow Our Minds is nothing less than the story of the British rock and pop scene of 1967: music made half-a-century ago that, as can be seen from the number of hitherto unknown recordings featured, is still slowly revealing it's secrets. As some righteously obscure band confidently promised during that epochal year, a splendid time is guaranteed for all. WB-S02234|Limited vinyl LP pressing. Looking On is the third album by The Move, released in December 1970 and is their first LP to feature Jeff Lynne. With Wood's use of cello and woodwinds and Lynne's piano in addition to their usual guitars and vocals, anticipating the work they would later pursue in The Electric Light Orchestra, whose debut album they were starting to record at around the same time. The Move was effectively a dead band walking when Lynne joined in February 1970 after fronting (and producing) The Idle Race. Wood had wanted to launch a new group with Lynne that would feature rock and strings, to pick up, in theory, where the Beatles' 'I Am the Walrus' had left off. WB-S13907|CD reissue. Chappaqua Suite is a free jazz album that was recorded and released in 1965, by alto saxophonist Ornette Coleman. It was originally commissioned by actor/director Conrad Rooks as the soundtrack to his film Chappaqua; however, the music was not used in the released version of the film. According to the album's liner notes, Rooks decided upon hearing Coleman's music that he found it was so beautiful that he feared it would overpower the imagery and action of the film. Instead, Columbia Records released it as a double album, but gave it very little promotion and the album sold poorly. It was taken out of print the following year and has since come back into print intermittently and in very small editions. WB-S19302|Limited double red and gold colored vinyl LP pressing in gatefold jacket 2016 release. British poly-genre wizard Jamie Lidell's Building a Beginning, is his sixth album and follow-up to 2013's wild-eyed self-titled effort. Whereas his last album was a full-body immersion into strident electro and pop sounds, Building a Beginning is Lidell purifying himself in the waters of smooth, earthy psychedelic soul think the subtle low end of Marvin Gaye's What's Going On, the swirling loveliness of Temptations' Cloud Nine, and the beatific radiance of Steve Wonder, all imbued with Lidell's distinctive songwriting touch and impossibly gorgeous vocals. Features Pat Sansone (Wilco) and Daru Jones (Jack White). WB-S14570|Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing of this 1976 album by singer/songwriter Jonathan Richman and his band The Modern Lovers. The original band existed from 1970 to 1974 but their recordings were not released until 1976 or later. In early 1976, Richman put together a new version of the Modern Lovers, with Leroy Radcliffe (guitar), Greg 'Curly' Keranen (bass) and future Cars member David Robinson (drums). They recorded the album Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers (1976), but Robinson again left after Richman persisted in reducing the size and volume of his drum kit. This album does contain elements of the band's earlier Velvet Underground-influenced primal rock sound but is far more whimsical than anything the earlier line-up recorded. WB-S39301|Limited Edition Deluxe Gatefold LP with scholarly liner notes by David Thrussell. Ncredibly rare 45s and subterranean cuts reissued for the very first time. Full dynamic range 2016 remasters direct from the first generation analogue master tapes. A pivotal moment in 20th century politics, history and culture - the November 22nd 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy (in Dallas, Texas) produced a mountainous range of forgotten, discarded and ghostly vinyl artifacts. Country songs, private-press lamentations, mournful poetry and violent political diatribes were rushed onto rough-hewn 45s and marginal LPs that vied to be heard above the noise and confusion. Collected here for the very first time are 20 of the strangest, most affectionate, controversial and insightful. Blistering indictments of the alleged assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, haunting reflections on destiny and co-incidence, profound ballads of regret and striking protestations for the truth. WB-S57720|A/B [LP] - Kaleo - The Icelandic four-piece's debut album, A/B is now available. The album features the single "Way Down We Go." Primarily recorded in Nashville alongside producer Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, James Bay), with additional contributions from Mike Crossey, Arnar Gu=j=nsson and the band, "A/B" includes the multi-format singles, "Way Down We Go," "No Good," and "All The Pretty Girls.
