Edition Highlights
First-ever physical release on Black Vinyl
2 LP Gatefold edition
Recorded live at the inaugural WOMAD Festival, 1982
Features early live performances of material from Peter Gabriel 4
Captures a pivotal moment in Peter Gabriel’s musical and cultural legacy
Live At WOMAD 1982 documents a landmark performance from Peter Gabriel, recorded on the Friday night of the very first WOMAD Festival in July 1982. Taking place at the Bath and West Showground in Somerset, the festival was born from a bold vision: to present music and art from around the world as headline experiences in their own right. Gabriel’s set—performed just two months before the release of Peter Gabriel 4—features seven of the eight songs that would soon become central to his catalogue, including early live versions of “The Rhythm of the Heat,” “San Jacinto,” and “Shock the Monkey.” Balancing new, unreleased material with select earlier works, the performance captures an artist at a moment of creative risk, intensity, and transition.
This Black Vinyl 2 LP Gatefold edition marks the first time this recording has been made available physically, presenting the concert in a richly detailed and immersive format. Joined on stage by David Rhodes, John Giblin, Larry Fast, Jerry Marotta, Peter Hammill, and the Bristol-based drum and dance group Ekomé, Gabriel delivers a powerful, rhythm-driven performance shaped by global influences and experimental ambition. More than just a live album, Live At WOMAD 1982 captures the birth of a festival that would go on to span decades and continents, alongside the live unveiling of an album that helped redefine Peter Gabriel’s sound. A vital historical document and a compelling listening experience, this release stands as a testament to artistic curiosity, collaboration, and cultural openness.
